Bhutan has a set of religious festival that commemorates the pure deeds of Gautam Buddha or his successors. . In addition, Bhutan also has some standard annual festivals providing inhabitants and tourists a reason to celebrate. One of the annual Buddhist festivals most popular among locals and foreigners alike are the Teschu or Tenth day festivals. The festivals commemorate the deeds of Padmasambhava or Guru Rimpocher, responsible as the harbinger of Buddhism. As a part of the celebrations, various good stories from the live of Guru Rimpoche are enacted. All these Bhutanese festivals last from three to five days. One of these festivals invariably falls on the 10the day of the lunar calendar.  

The festivals most famous with the western tourists are Paro Tsechu, Wangue Tsechu,and Thimpu Tsechus, While Paro Tsechu falls in the spring, the latter two fall in the autumn.  Tourists particularly enjoy these festivals times as during these days they get a real taste of the cultural brightness and religious richness of Bhutan .

Dances are a part of the celebrations, performed by trained monks or laymen with attractive masks on them.
